Evolution has been a key construct in shaping the world that we see today. Mankind’s relentless pursuit of perfection has gifted the world with countless discoveries and inventions that continue to evolve and transform our lives. Ever since its genesis in the 20th century, AI has brought about a paradigm shift in every industry and it has reduced the complexity of tasks that a human would normally find tedious or time-consuming

Intresting Facts about GPT

ChatGPT is the latest rage in the AI realm. ChatGPT or Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer is a large language model from the house of OpenAI, a non-profit organisation that works towards developing artificial general intelligence models. Launched on November 2022, ChatGPT went on to become one of the most hyped topics across the globe and over 1 million people signed up for it in a span of 5 days following its launch. From chatting to generating complex code and answers for queries, ChatGPT’s versatility has earned it critical acclaim.

ChatGPT’s growing popularity has led to a lot of deliberation and experts have divided views on its future and the impact of AI on society. In this blog, we will delve into the nuances, quirks, and cons of ChatGPT.

ChatGPT: A Friend or a Foe?

ChatGPT has amassed quite a hype and it is imperative to look at both its positives and negatives from a rational perspective.

Chat GPT is an excellent tool for online businesses to improve customer services. It has an excellent use case in being very helpful for creating chatbots that can interact with customers and handle their queries. The queries could range from recommending services to handling complaints. This is possible because of GPT’s natural language processing which helps it conduct fairly natural conversations with ‘human like answers.’ It is effective as a data collection tool too, enabling businesses to receive better analytics about their target audience. ChatGPT can also help in making development strategies without taking emotional decisions. ChatGPT is a boon for developers as it has the ability to write codes in most of the popular programming languages which makes context switching seamless. ChatGPT has also become the de-facto solution for students to work on homework and assignments. If used correctly, GPT can reduce the amount of time taken to solve problems significantly.

All good things are bound to have some downsides. As previously stated, without extensive training ChatGPT often returns erroneous results for queries. This is quite apparent in programming or algorithm building problems but such issues exist across the board proving that GPT is not perfect yet. This is because, at its core, ChatGPT is an AI model that feeds on data and and gives answers based on logic and data. This could lead to lack of empathy and bias. In the domains of content creation and customer services this could have negative consequences, leading to dissatisfaction and major complications.

Although this AI model can be trained to learn new things, it cannot generate creativity out of thin air. At the end of the day a pre-programmed AI model cannot display the same amount of creativity as a human author. Students using GPT to solve homework see it as a win but using applications like ChatGPT to solve problems defeats the reason for giving an assignment in the first place. However, applications such as GPTZero and Turnitin can be used to detect plagiarized answers and are being employed in many universities to catch offenders.

Future of ChatGPT

OpenAI has been tirelessly working on expanding the capabilities of their AI language model, GPT-4. Other prominent players in the industry are also pushing the limits of AI with equally ambitious tools. Although speculations about GPT-5 are circulating, OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, stresses that their attention has been on the capabilities of these systems rather than the version numbers assigned to them.

On a grander scale, AI is expected to affect all multiple industries like Education, Healthcare, Transportation, Manufacturing, Media, and Customer Service etc. All these strives are happening at a break-neck speed as seen by the fact that 44% of companies have invested or are planning to invest into AI. Out of the 9,000 patents received by IBM inventors in 2021, 2,500 were related to the domain of AI.

However, giving AI such power can have unintended consequences such as bots going rogue, job crisis, spread of propaganda and various other risks that we may not be privy to. As such many who are seasoned in the AI field have raised concerns regarding the development of GPT and its rivals like Google Bard, Chatsonic. With the rumoured 10-billion-dollar investment from Microsoft and the trend of tech companies investing more staff into AI segments of their businesses, its apparent that it is not a matter of “if” but rather “when” AI will be integrated into our daily lives.

Conclusion

The world is evolving at an unprecedented pace and the future is an unpredictable construct. Technology is changing the industry paradigms and it is imperative that we become dynamic and keep up with the times. The world might be at the brink of a radical change that is powered by AI and it becomes increasingly important for one to understand the limits to which ChatGPT and AI applications are to be used. To conclude, the onus is on us individuals to use ChatGPT and AI responsibly and ethically.

AI, a coin with two sides, On one hand, it brings progress and light, On the other, it instills a sense of fright.
